Healthcare Weekly AI News

November 17 - November 25, 2025

Healthcare organizations are moving quickly to use smart AI agents that can do complex tasks on their own. These AI systems are helping doctors save time, make better decisions, and take better care of patients.

Microsoft announced exciting new AI tools this week called MedImageInsight Premium and CXRReportGen Premium that can look at medical images and write reports better than before. The company also shared stories about real hospitals using AI agents to help with cancer treatment planning and patient care. For example, doctors at Oxford University in the United Kingdom are using AI agents that work right inside their messaging apps to help plan cancer treatments.

Google also showed off their new Gemini 3 AI, which can be used as the brain of AI agents to handle multiple jobs at once. These AI agents can read patient records, find important information, and help doctors quickly without having to ask the AI questions.

However, not all hospitals are keeping up. A big survey showed that 99 out of 100 healthcare workers believe AI could help right away, especially by automating boring paperwork tasks. But there are problems. Some doctors say their current AI systems don't work well. Almost every healthcare worker surveyed reported that bad technology creates mistakes or delays in patient care about 11 times per month.

Healthcare experts are also worried about safety. The United Nations and World Health Organization are calling for stronger rules to make sure AI tools in hospitals are safe and protect patients. They want clear guidelines before AI tools get used in real hospitals.

Good news is that governments are helping. The United States Department of Health and Human Services announced a $2 million prize to help people create better AI tools for caregivers. Plus, doctors and hospitals are starting to get better training on how to use AI safely in their work.
