Big changes are happening around the world as cities plan for artificial intelligence infrastructure. In Saudi Arabia, the famous NEOM project called "The Line" is being redesigned. Instead of being just a giant city for people to live in, it will now focus on data centers and AI computing. These are huge computer buildings that power AI systems.

However, there is a big problem: power. In the United States, there is not enough electricity to build all the AI data centers that companies want to build. The power grid is already stretched too thin. Companies are now trying to create their own power sources at their facilities to avoid waiting years for connections.

Water is another serious concern. AI data centers use enormous amounts of water for cooling, sometimes using as much water in one day as a town of 50,000 people. In Hong Kong, a new area called San Tin is being planned for AI infrastructure, but scientists worry about what will happen to the environment and the wetlands already there.

In the United States, particularly in areas like New Jersey and the Northeast, communities are fighting back against these massive data centers. They are concerned about pollution, loss of farmland, and harm to neighborhoods that are already dealing with environmental problems. Some cities have successfully stopped data center projects by raising these concerns. Overall, the rush to build AI infrastructure is creating new challenges for city planning around the world.
