Big technology companies around the world are cutting jobs because of artificial intelligence and automation. Amazon, one of the world's largest companies, laid off 14,000 workers this week in the United States. These workers were mostly middle managers and office workers, not factory workers. Other large companies like Target, Intel, Salesforce, and Meta are also cutting thousands of jobs. A big bank called Goldman Sachs studied what companies are doing with AI and found that only about 11% of companies are cutting jobs directly because of AI right now. However, the bank's experts think many more companies will cut jobs in the next few years because AI is getting better at doing office work. The worst jobs for the future might be in customer support, administration, and information technology. Some experts say this is happening because companies want to make more money with fewer workers, and AI can now do many tasks that people used to do. The timing is bad for young people who are trying to start their careers because companies are not hiring much right now.
