This week's workforce news shows that artificial intelligence is changing how companies hire and train workers across the world. Many companies are cutting jobs while also looking for workers who understand AI. On April 15, Snap announced it would cut about 1,000 employees and cancel over 300 open positions, reducing its workforce by 16 percent. Meanwhile, research shows that 87% of business leaders say their companies are already laying off workers or planning to in the next 12 months, mostly because of AI transformation and changing skills. However, not all job news is bad. AI is also creating new types of jobs, especially in areas where AI helps workers do their jobs better. Companies in big sectors like information technology and finance are using AI more than smaller businesses. Young workers, like Gen Z, are particularly worried about AI-driven job cuts and fewer entry-level positions. Experts say AI will likely create new jobs in areas like data quality checking and AI management, similar to how the software boom created new jobs in the past.
