Workers around the world are feeling worried about their jobs because of artificial intelligence, according to major surveys this week. Only 22% of workers globally strongly believe their jobs are safe from being replaced by AI. The fear is especially strong for people doing routine tasks like data entry and for younger workers just starting their careers. However, there's a confusing twist: workers who use AI tools every day are actually more engaged and less stressed at work, even though they sometimes feel less productive. This happens because AI handles small tasks like writing emails and creating first drafts—the small wins that used to make workers feel accomplished. Researchers found that AI is changing the types of jobs available, with fewer jobs for repetitive tasks and more jobs for creative work that needs human judgment. Companies are expected to cut about 502,000 jobs this year because of AI, which is nine times more than last year. Importantly, young workers aged 22-25 in jobs exposed to AI saw a 16% drop in employment. The good news is that workers feel more secure when their employers invest in teaching them new skills. Experts say the anxiety workers feel isn't something that has to happen—it's mostly because company leaders aren't preparing their workers properly for this change.
